With Thomas Bryant Off the Board, Here’s Who the Celtics Might Add at Center

The Celtics’ search continues for a backup center capable of filling a starting role.

Thomas Bryant has signed a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes. Haynes reports that the purple and gold gave him a chance to win the center starting position. In Boston he would have ranked behind Al Horford and Robert Williams on the depth chart.

Along with the Lakers and Celtics, Bryant attracted interest from the Raptors, Bucks and Jazz, according to Haynes.

Bryant, returning to where his NBA career began, grew his game in the nation’s capital and assumed the role of the Wizards’ starting center. In 2019-20, he averaged 13.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.1 blocks. He also shot over 40 percent from beyond the arc on two three-point attempts per game.
