Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard will represent team at NBA draft lottery

Can Damian Lillard muster more magic for the Portland Trail Blazers?

Lillard hopes the ping-pong balls will bounce in Portland’s favor when he represents the Blazers in the 2022 NBA lottery draw on May 17. The Blazers announced that Lillard will be present for the team, courtesy of Lillard’s son, Damian Lillard Jr.

“My dad, Damian Lillard, goes to the lottery,” Dame Jr. said in a video released from the Blazers on social media. “Go Trailblazer!”

After their worst season since 2005-06, the Blazers currently sit sixth in the draft lottery draw after finishing 27-55. Portland has a 9% chance of being #1 overall and a 37.2% chance of a top 4 pick. Their highest odds (29.8%) are for #7 in the draft.

If Portland falls to 7th, it would only be the second time they have held that pick.

The Blazers almost had a second lottery win after acquiring it in a trade with CJ McCollum. The Blazers needed it to drop between the No. 5 and 14 picks but missed out as New Orleans made the playoffs, falling to 15.

Teams usually have a representative at the lottery to bring luck, and their spokesperson is usually interviewed before or after the selection they land on.

The 2022 NBA Draft Lottery will be held in Chicago on Tuesday, May 17th. For more details on how the whole process works, the NBA has this statement.
