The reason Kevin Durant goes Boston in ‘nuclear option’

The Boston Celtics narrowly won an NBA title last season. Could a Jayson Tatum and Kevin Durant move be considered should he force his way out of the Brooklyn Nets?

At least that’s what Celtics cult hero Brian Scalabrine thinks is possible. In a recent appearance on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Scal talked about why he believes that Boston has the best trade package for Kevin Durant:

“There is no better package than the Boston Celtics. Jaylen Brown, three picks, two trades and Daniel Theis, the money works. You get the all-star caliber player and you get picks that move forward,” Scalabrine said of why his former club has the best chance at KD.

Not only did the White Mamba have a solid trade offer on the table, but they also pointed to Durant’s ties to the Celtics. After all, these superstar trades often require said player’s buy-in to make things work. A team will not give up a treasure trove of assets if they are unsure whether the star even wants to be there.

“And you have to understand that there is a connection. The Al Horford connection with Kevin Durant, they were kind of connected during that free agency when he went to Golden State. He loves Marcus Smart as a player, going to the Hamptons, all that stuff. I’m Udoka, he coached him, and he always chats to Udoka on the sidelines during the game, and you have a chance to play with Jayson Tatum, a guy he played with on the Olympic team, where they together trained and things like that. So there is a connection. It’s not crazy to think that something like this could happen if, if and only if Kevin Durant decides, ‘Okay, I want to get out of here.'”

Kevin Durant’s future remains up in the air. While the Celtics probably don’t want to mess with their young core, led by Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, it’s probably something Brad Stevens will think of should the opportunity arise.
