Stephen Curry’s Warriors join Magic Johnson’s Lakers in unique feat vs Celtics

The warrior are a legitimate dynasty. In eight seasons, they have six championship appearances and four trophies. As they celebrate one of the biggest runs NBA Historyher fans crowd the tracking center in San Francisco. And now we wonder if they can repeat the feat in 2022-2023. The core is still there – maybe not as strong as before, but the sum of its parts is still impressive. Something tells me we can’t get rid of these people that easily.

However, they are not the only team that has managed to beat them Celts in Boston in Game 6 of the NBA Finals. The feat is also one of the los angeles lakers, back if Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul Jabbar won the final in 1987.

When the Lakers made history

That Los Angeles Lakers won their 10th NBA championship on June 14, 1987 when they defeated the Boston Celtics Game 6 of the NBA Finals.

During the 1980s, the Lakers and Celtics dominated the NBA, with the Lakers and Celtics deciding the championship in all but two seasons. After upset Los Angeles the previous postseason, they lost to the Houston missiles it was Boston’s turn to defend the title at the 1986-87 Western Conference Finals.

With 65 wins, Purple and Gold ended the regular season with their second-best record ever. Magic Johnson took the offensive and led Los Angeles in points and assists on his way to his first win NBA MVP forgive. Johnson had the highest penny average in the league that year.

Additionally, Michael Cooper won the first and only Defensive Player of the Year Award in the 1986/87 season.

But no single feat could have counted more than beating the Celtics in the Finals for a second time, having done so for the first time two years earlier after eight straight Finals losses to the Cs.

In game 5, Danny Aige went out and hit five 3-pointers on six tries to lead the Celtics to a 123-108 win and a 3-2 series lead. Kareem Abdul Jabbar40, showed up to Game 6 with his head shaved, indicating his desire to finish the finals that day.

That lakers returned to the dressing room down 56-51 at halftime after a shaky first quarter. After the break, however, LA’s Johnson and James Worthy quickly regained the lead, hurting Boston’s transition.

In the third quarter, the Purple and Gold beat the Celtics 30-12, effectively sealing their Finals victory. Abdul-Jabbar led the team with 32 points while Johnson led the team with 19 assists.

Larry Vogel said after the game that Johnson was the best player he had ever seen. The Lakers guard was also named NBA Finals MVP for the third and last time.

After seeing the parallels between these two teams, it’s no surprise Magic Johnson he himself rooted for curry and the warrior, and even said he should be this season’s MVP. And he was.
