Shane Lowry sports Celtics shirt at U.S. Open ahead of Game 6 of NBA Finals

BROOKLINE — It’s not often that the centers of the basketball and golf universes coexist in the same place, but that’s the case Thursday in the city of Boston.

As well as the world’s best golfers gathered at The Country Club for the US Open, the Golden State Warriors are also in town to take on the Boston Celtics in Game 6 of the NBA Finals. The game takes place about six miles from the historic golf course at Brookline, but it’s certainly front and center in the minds of many viewers.

That was probably the inspiration for Shane Lowry when choosing his wardrobe for the US Open opening round, as the Irishman wears a large Celtics shamrock on his upper back for the round.

Lowry’s best result at the US Open was a second-place finish in 2016. His wardrobe choice will surely earn him a few more fans hoping for an even better result this time around. And with the Celtics set to face elimination on Thursday night, everyone is hoping Lowry gets another chance to wear another Celtics shirt ahead of Game 7 on Sunday.
