The future of the San Antonio Spurs will soon be taking part in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. The team will feature one of its recent lottery picks, Joshua Primo, along with his first-round pick in the 2022 NBA draft.
It remains to be seen if Jeremy Sochan will be available to play after testing positive for COVID-19, but the likes of Joshua Primo, Malaki Branham and Blake Wesley will be in the action.
The rookies caught the attention of their peers during the practice sessions the Spurs held over the summer before heading to Las Vegas.
“You’re really good,” Primo said. “Blake is great offensively and defensively. And Malaki is really adept. He knows how to get his spots. He has some physical attributes that make him very special.”
The 3 and D effect that Branham provides will be the basis of how he exerts his influence in the NBA. As for Wesley, he needs to refine his shooting mechanics, but he’s still a high-explosive athlete who can play with the paint.
“I’ve done a lot with Malaki and he sucks the crap out,” said Joe Wieskamp. “What I like about (Wesley) is that he sees the ground really well. There were a couple of times where he went downhill, played through traffic, and was able to kick shooters. I really like that about him.”
The Spurs will play at least four games in Vegas with a chance to qualify for tournament play to begin on Saturday, July 16.
Here is the team’s current schedule:
Spurs versus Cleveland Cavaliers – Friday, July 8 at 4pm CT at the Cox Pavilion
Spurs vs. Golden State Warriors – Sunday, July 10 at 6:30 p.m. CT at the Thomas & Mack Center
Spurs versus Houston Rockets – Monday, July 11 at 6pm CT at the Thomas & Mack Center
Spurs versus Atlanta Hawks – Thursday, July 14 at 2pm CT at the Cox Pavilion
