Order revealed as Auburn’s Jabari Smith in the mix to go No. 1

The NBA draft order was created Tuesday as the lottery announcement unfolded, and there’s now a better sense of which players can end up on which teams.

The Orlando Magic will have the #1 overall rating.

The order was mostly predictable early in the night, but then got interesting towards the end. Rounding out the top four picks are the Sacramento Kings, Houston Rockets, and Oklahoma City Thunder. At the beginning of the announcement, 3 teams that had the worst records this season – the Houston Rockets, Orlando Magic and Detroit Pistons – had the best chance of scooping first place with 14 percent.

Former Auburn star Jabari Smith attended this Chicago event as he will be #1 along with Gonzaga’s Chet Holmgren and Duke’s Paolo Banchero.

Smith’s father was No. 45 overall in the 2000 draft and the former Auburn star was asked what advice he got from his father.

“Just take it day by day, really,” Smith said on ESPN before the announcement. “Enjoy it. Don’t take days for granted, just work. Because you know when your name is called it’s time to work. Just have fun with it, just enjoy it, it’s a blessing.”

Here is the order:

  1. Orlando magic
  2. Oklahoma City Thunder
  3. Houston missiles
  4. Sacramento Kings
  5. Detroit piston
  6. Indiana Pacers
  7. Portland Trailblazer

  9. San Antonio Spurs
  10. Washington Wizard
  11. New York Knicks
  12. Oklahoma City Thunder
  13. Charlotte Hornets
