As much as we love Shah Rukh Khan as Ram in Main Hoon Na, we can’t forget how he was so deftly backed up by Zayed Khan’s Lucky in the film. The film has become very popular among mainstream cinema lovers, but did you know that Zayed landed the coveted role even before the release of his debut film?

In an interview with Pinkvilla, Zayed recalled that Farah Khan didn’t want to entertain him in the early days. Zayed tried to get in touch with Farah about a song for Chura Liya Hai Tumne, unaware that the choreographer was planning a debut as a director. Reminiscing about the greatest achievement of his career, Zayed Khan spoke about his first meeting with Farah Khan at Red Chillies Entertainment. He also remembered his not-so-pleasant conversation with Shah Rukh Khan.

“I wanted Farah to do a song for my film Chura Liya Hai Tumne. She didn’t know me very well. I always introduced myself as Mr. Sanjay Khan’s son and Fardeen Khan’s brother because no one knew me at the time. She said come over. She was in Shah Rukh Khan’s office. She said, ‘What are you doing?’ I told her I was doing a film. She said she was considering me for a role in Main Hoon Na,” Zayed recalled.

He added: “In walks Shah Rukh Khan. Very generous and kind gentleman. He sat me down and said, “How are you Zayed? We’re looking for a second lead in the film. And Farah said you could have good potential. But bhai ek baat bata, tujhe act aati hai na? (You know how to behave, don’t you?) I was a little worried about that question.”

Zayed said in his head that he had a different answer to Shah Rukh’s question, but he said something different. “In my head I wanted to say that I was born into a family of actors. So, of course, acting is in my blood. But of course I said, “Come on, I was born to act” and all that. Now, rest is history,” he continued. “I showed Farah some of my rushes and before she got in her car she said, ‘Send me your measurements, you’re in my movie,'” he concluded.

Main Hoon Na marked Farah’s debut and was a blockbuster with Amrita Rao, Sushmita Sen and Suniel Shetty playing central roles.
