nobody movie_Ozark’s Jason Bateman reveals where he thinks Wendy and Marty Byrde are now

As far as Jason Bateman is worried ozark turned out fine.

All four members of the Byrde family – Marty (Bateman), Wendy (Laura Linney), Charlotte (Sofia Hublitz) and Jonah (Skylar Gardener) – made it out alive ozarkthe fourth season finale, an ending that nobody really saw coming. Eventually, the Byrdes became involved in cartel warfare, undercover operations, and drug deals gone awry.

Nevertheless, in an interview with diversity, Bateman described it as a “happy ending,” albeit one with a “stain on it.”

“There’s something sticky there,” he explained. “Because as soon as we go black, we’ll see they got away with it, but at what cost?”

In the end, Jonah and Charlotte have become accomplices in their parents’ crimes, a fate no one would wish on their children. Yes, there is hope that this murder will allow the family to lead a more altruistic lifestyle, but no guarantee that will ever happen. As Bateman said, they leave viewers with the Byrdes, “in that we trust the ends to justify the means, but we don’t stick to the ends; we directly exit the means.”

The ending left fans wondering if the Byrdes will be able to move forward from their criminal enterprise aka the Navarro Cartel. Bateman acknowledged that Marty and Wendy’s dealings with drug dealers and corrupt officials forced them to stay together after Wendy cheated, but now that they seem to be moving on, Bateman said, “They can go back to their marriage.”

He continued, “If the cameras stayed around for the next year or the next week or the next month you would see them dealing with it. What’s left there?”

And honestly, Bateman doesn’t think there would be much hope for the Byrdes in general if the show continued for another season. As he said: “You would either be dead or in prison. It is good for them that the camera is now turning off.”

Besides that, ozark is a fictional series, so there is always a chance to return to these characters. Bateman noted that he enjoyed working on a “positive” set ozark‘s and would return “in a second” and add, “What we had just doesn’t happen often.”
