In a recent podcast interview with YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia, Kartik reminisced about the days of his struggle in Bollywood and shared a heartbreaking story as he found himself in the auditions for films a week after the huge success of Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2.
And to make matters worse, the people who attended his audition didn’t even know his name, even though he’d been in the industry for five years and starred in two box office hits.
He said: “First film Pyaar Ka Punchnama (2011) became a sleeper hit kisi ko mera naam tak nahin pata tha (No one knew my name.). You would always say woh lambe dialoge jo bolta hai (the one famous for his monologues). Uske baad bhi plays pe jaata tha (I used to still go to auditions). Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 bhi aayi uske but it never made a household name for me. I remember a week after the release of Pyaar Ka punchnama 2, I was still standing in audition lines for movies. Like a proper line along with other fighters and those who audition didn’t even know my name then. And by then I had been in the industry for about five years. So it was very hard that people still didn’t know my name.”
Then he continued as it was Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety (2018), which turned out to be a turning point in his career and made him a household name.
