nobody movie_ Mads Mikkelsen to Star in Historical Drama King’s Land – Film News |

Mads Mikkelsen is set to star in historical drama King’s Land.

The 56-year-old actor will reunite with director Nikolaj Arcel – with whom he worked on the 2012 film A Royal Affair – for the new period film.

The story takes place in the 17th century when the Danish King Frederik V declared that the wild moors of Jutland should be tamed and colonized so that civilization could spread and bring in more taxes for the royal house.

But no one dared to obey the decree, as the heath was considered to be infested with ravenous wolves and muggers.

In 1755, the lone soldier Ludvig Kahlen rode into the heath knowing he could earn wealth and honor or face death.

Filming on King’s Land is slated to begin in September in Denmark, Germany and the Czech Republic. The film is expected to hit theaters in fall 2023.

Arcel wrote the screenplay with Anders Thomas and the film is based on the 2020 Danish book The Captain And Ann Barbara.

Mikkelsen said in a statement: “Nikolaj Arcel and I had a great collaboration during ‘A Royal Affair’ and I’m delighted to be working with him again.

“He has an amazing vision for the film and he and Anders Thomas wrote an amazing script. I was deeply moved by its brutality and tenderness when I first read it.

“It is an important and fascinating chapter in Danish history that is in the process of being adapted for the screen and contains themes that are still relevant today.”

Arcel added: “With ‘King’s Land’ we will make a stunning, modern and epic film that embraces the darkness, humor, helplessness, blood, sweat and madness of a story that follows the tireless pioneers of the heath and gets close to their enemies. “
