It’s going to be an exciting game tonight at Ball Arena as the Calgary Flames host the league-leading Colorado Avalanche. Valeri Nichushkin will be back in the lineup with Darcy Kuemper in the net.
These are your big lineup takeaways for the Avs coming back from that haphazard defeat in Arizona the other night.
“Losses don’t sit well with our group. I have to find ways to get back on my feet,” said Avs coach Jared Bednar. “Calgary has a deep team, really deep. Great goalie game, lots of depth. We’ll play them twice next week and they’re a top team in the league at the moment. It will be a really good test for our club.”
Calgary native Cale Makar will be ready.
“Obviously this is my hometown team, the team I grew up for and cheered for. But my loyalty is elsewhere now,” Makar said.
Bednar said he didn’t know who would be the sane scratch tonight, so we can’t give exact lines or D-pairs. Have to wait until around game time to find out. But Kuemper is online.
Bo Byram went skating again this morning. Here he is with skills coach Shawn Allard ending up throwing pucks in the bucket.
There’s still no official word/timeline on a potential Byram return.

Jacob Markstrom is expected to start in goal for the Flames, who are in the bottom 10 at 8-1-1.
Tonight’s game will also feature Pride Night as part of the National Hockey League’s Hockey Is For Everyone and You Can Play Program initiatives. The Avs are -150 favorites to beat the Flames in tonight’s Superbook Colorado.
