In just a few days, two Kansas folk heroes will learn the next leg of their basketball journey when the 2022 NBA draft gets underway this Thursday night.
Ochai Agbaji and Christian Braun both have great chances of hearing their names in the first round. If that happens, it will be the first time Kansas has had two players in the top 30 since 2014.
Agbaji also has a chance to become the Jayhawks’ first lottery pick since Josh Jackson in 2017.
NBA.com has compiled a consensus ticket design of lottery tips by compiling some of the most popular ticket designs from various websites and publications on the Internet.
The most popular destination predicted for Agbaji is the Cleveland Cavaliers at number 14 – the lottery’s final pick.
Coming into the draft as a senior and having championship experience — combined with an NBA-ready physique — Agbaji should immediately contribute to any teams that give him a chance.
The intangibles he possesses, such as his leadership qualities and mature demeanor on and off the pitch, should make him a favorite of his future coaches, teammates and fan base.
NBADraft.net lists Agbaji as the #17 player on their Big Board, while ESPN has him at #16 on their Best Available Players list.
Braun’s landing spot seems a little more unpredictable, as various mock drafts take him from 27th to 34th overall.
NBADrat.net lists Braun as the No. 35 player overall and ESPN has him at No. 29.
Wherever he lands, he will instantly make his team more competitive. While he doesn’t get much playing time as a rookie, he will push all of his teammates in practice to be the best versions of themselves.
Braun can grow as a marksman, but his defensive skills, rebounding ability and work ethic should earn him some playing time in his freshman year as a pro.
We’ll find out the fates of our two national champions this Thursday when the NBA draft begins at 7pm CT on ESPN.
