LOOK: Avalanche winger falls, dents Stanley Cup in celebration

A member of the 2021-22 Philadelphia Flyers won the Stanley Cup Sunday night!

Nicholas Aube-Kubel, the 2014 second-round pick who has played 102 games for the Flyers since 2018-19, heaved Lord Stanley’s trophy after the Avalanche defeated the Lightning in six games to clinch their first title in two decades.

Aube-Kubel was canceled back in November when the Flyers had to make room and was promptly picked up by the Avs. The 26-year-old had 11 goals, 11 assists and posted +11 (all career-best marks) for best team in hockey and ended up winning it all. Good for NAK!

And how did the ex-Flyer celebrate his first NHL championship? By throwing pro sport’s most famous trophy straight into the ice and, of course, giving it a nice dent.

Here’s the moment things went left for the Alberta native, who lugged the trophy over to the rest of the team for the classic “full squad” photo:

MAN DOWN.

On closer inspection, it looks like Aube-Kubel just got… stuck on his own skates? Is this a dive? It’s certainly not a journey. Let’s bring Dave Jackson in here for the call.

The Avs’ collective reactions to the Aube-Kubel sinking are just plain money:

And frankly, if you want to bonk the trophy, you might as well get your money’s worth. It wasn’t just a scratch. The Cup folks will have their hands full preparing for this bad boy parade over the next 24 hours.

Look at the size of the dent!

Body slamming the Stanley Cup for no good reason: There’s the Broad Street Bullies ethos that NAK internalized during his time in Philly. Enjoy the celebration, Nic.
