Juancho Hernangomez sounds off on his time with the ‘selfish’ Celtics

The Boston Celtics have epically recovered from a rocky start to the 2021-22 season and advanced all the way to the 2022 NBA Finals after many in the league called for trades or even layoffs.

Reserve star Juancho Hernangomez, who was with the team earlier in the season, recently shared a surprising aspect of his personal experience from his time in Boston.

He claimed he wasn’t happy with the structure of the team or with the attitude of the players — he even went so far as to say there were “a lot of super selfish players” — which at least led to the slow start that plagued the first half of the Celtics campaign.

Per Daniel Arribas @El Pais: “It was very difficult. There was no communication. I didn’t know what was expected of me. There were a lot of super selfish players, no team building. I’ve lost my love for basketball a bit.”

Something clicked mid-season. The entire script of what happened was reversed and the team changed completely.

Players now know what they’re doing and play more selflessly, which Hernangomez probably would have preferred to see. The order and structure seems set and the stars play for the team rather than themselves. A big turnaround for sure.
