John Mahnken born, former owner Louis Pieri passes

Mahnken would be traded as a whole five times before landing with the Celtics in 1951 for the first multi-year stretch of his career since it began.

He spent a total of four seasons with Boston, averaging 3.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.

It would be the final stop in a seven-year career that even predated the BAA, after which Mahnken virtually disappeared from professional basketball circles until shortly before his death in 2000.
