Jazz set to hire Celtics assistant Will Hardy as next HC

The Utah Jazz have found their man.

Shams Charania by The Athletic reported Tuesday for the Jazz to strike a deal with Boston Celtics assistant Will Hardy to become their next head coach. This comes after an extensive managerial search that included former head coaches, former players, other league assistants and more.

Hardy made his mark as the top assistant on Celtics head coach Ime Udoka’s staff last season, helping guide her to an NBA Finals berth. Hardy previously spent four seasons at San Antonio as an assistant to Spurs coach Gregg Popovich.

The Jazz are currently at a major fork in the road and face uncertainty over the respective futures of Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert after being eliminated in the first round of this season. Hardy is tasked with putting the ship back in order, but he may not be the only hire Utah is hiring this summer.
