The Boston Celtics have needed some shooting size to add to the team’s frontcourt rotation for some time, and they finally got it with the signing of veteran forward Danilo Gallinari. The two have long been a target for the Celtics and finally got together this week when the Italian announced he will sign a two-year contract with Boston with a player option in the second season for the taxpayer midlevel exemption (MLE).
Boston will definitely benefit from Gallinari’s shotmaking, but there are critics who point out that the former Atlanta Hawks swinger isn’t a defensive specialist and has even become something of a drag on this end of the court in recent years of his career.
Is Gallinari a good fit for a defensively-focused team with title plans? Can he be hidden away on a team like this to add depth in the regular season and spot offense in the postseason?
