The Boston Celtics have been one of the best drafting teams over the past seven years thanks to their ability to get Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart through the NBA draft.
Tatum and Brown were used with picks they bought commercially, making what they were able to do even more impressive.
Even more interesting is that the Celtics (and everyone else in the league) could have drafted Nikola Jokic in 2014.
The two-time NBA MVP was selected by the Denver Nuggets with the 41st pick overall in the 2014 NBA draft.
The Celtics had two picks in that draft (6th overall and 17th overall) so they could easily have traded back and drafted Jokic.
It’s always 20/20 in hindsight, but the fact that they could have had a big three from Jokic, Tatum and Brown is something that can’t be overlooked.
The Celtics are currently in the NBA Finals and have a 1-0 lead over the Golden State Warriors.
