The 2022 NBA Finals might not have been a seven-game nail biter, but from the looks of it, fans really enjoyed it.
ESPN has released its ratings for the 2022 NBA Finals and has come up with some pretty strong numbers. Overall viewership increased 22 percent from last year’s series between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Phoenix Suns.
Game 6 alone averaged 14 million viewers on ABC. At peak times, 16.9 million people tuned in.
Most notably, all six games in the series have been the most-watched programs on TV so far in the month of June. Averaging 12.4 million viewers, it was the most-watched NBA final in three years.
There was a wealth of history and star power on both sides in this NBA Finals.
The Celtics are one of the NBA’s most successful franchises with one of America’s most devoted fan bases. Meanwhile, the Warriors had plenty of superstars in Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, as well as three previous titles and five Finals appearances in just the past seven years.
The end result was a spectacle that NBA fans were excited to see. Would it be Steph Curry’s crowning glory as one of the greats? Would the Celtics surpass the Lakers with a historic 18th NBA title?
Steph Curry and Golden State Warriors were on the winning side, but not before giving the country a show to remember.
