Draymond Green says he appreciates Celtics fan base following NBA Finals

No love was lost between Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green and Boston Celtics fans during the course of the 2022 NBA Finals.

But though Green was frequently the target of chants and jeers at TD Garden throughout the series, Green sounded quite appreciative of the fanbase after his fourth championship win with Golden State.

“This fandom has given me a hard time, a really hard time,” said Green, who always seemed to enjoy being a lightning rod. “Coming here and winning is great. I appreciate that fanbase, they brought incredible energy, I have to give them credit, but we did what we do. Welcome back to the Warriors Invitational.”

Statistically, Green hasn’t had a strong streak for the Warriors — Game 6 was his first cracking double digits and ended with 12 points — but he was no stranger to the spotlight.

After Golden State dropped Game 1, Green – somewhat prophetically – downplayed the Al Horford, Derrick White and Marcus Smart shootout. Green feuded with Jaylen Brown and Grant Williams in Game 2 in San Francisco and made him Public Enemy #1 at TD Garden in Game 3. He continued to be a thorn in the side of the Celtics in Game 5, annoying Jayson Tatum after a whistle in the fourth quarter.

When all was said and done, Green saved his best for last, scoring his first two 3-point field goals of the series in Golden State’s narrow win. In addition to 12 points, he had 12 rebounds, eight assists, two blocks and two steals for the Warriors, who won their fourth championship since 2015.
