Draymond Green pinpoints keys to Warriors, Celtics winning NBA Finals

The 2022 NBA Finals between the Warriors and the Boston Celtics is expected to be a close series.

Both teams boast tenacious defenses that finished 1st and 2nd in defensive standings during the regular season. Both teams also have several offensive playmakers who can get hot in the blink of an eye – the Warriors with Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole, and the Celtics with their electro tandem of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

Though many pundits are predicting Golden State will win its fourth championship in the last eight years, the analysis seems to favor Boston.

In his podcast released Wednesday, the day before Game 1, Draymond Green named the one thing every team must do to win the title.

“The Warriors are going to win the NBA Finals this year if we track our sales,” Green said. “That’s a very good one [Celtics] Defense. We have to be crisp with our passes, understand that they have great length, they play passing paths, they are very aggressive, they are a changing defense. So it’s very important.”

If the series goes the other way, what will it be like?

“The Celtics will win the Finals if their defense can stop Steph Curry,” Green said. “I think that’s where it all starts. If they are ultimately able to disrupt our offensive, what does disrupt mean? Ultimately, taking you out of the things you want to do. So if they’re able to disrupt our offense, the Celtics win the NBA Finals.”

The two teams each split their regular season meetings. In the Warriors’ 111-107 win over Boston on December 17, Curry lost 30 points on 8-of-14 shooting. In Golden State’s 110-88 loss to the Celtics on March 16, Curry made four turnovers in 14 minutes before retiring in the second quarter with a foot injury.
