Colorado Avalanche open as favorites to win 2023 Stanley Cup

Odds makers believe the Colorado Avalanche are on the brink of a dynasty.

The Avalanche was the favorite to win the Stanley Cup this season and has already been named by sports bookmakers as the favorite to win the cup next season.

The Avalanche, who ended the Tampa Bay Lightning Sunday with a 2-1 win in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals, are 6-1 favorites for next season on Caesars Sportsbook. The Lightning are next up 8-1 and are the only other team with single-digit opening odds going into an offseason with a large pool of high-impact free agents.

The Carolina Hurricanes and New York Rangers are each 10-1 to win next season’s Stanley Cup, followed by the Florida Panthers, Vegas Golden Knights, Toronto Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers, each 12-1 stand.

Colorado started the 2021-22 season with championship odds of 6-1 and remained the favorite for most sportsbooks throughout the campaign. The Avalanche are expected to return the core of their championship lineup, despite goalie Darcy Kuemper being a free agent.

“The Avalanche were a no-brainer as favorites for next year,” said Thomas Foster, senior hockey trader at Caesars Sportsbook, in a company release. “They haven’t disappointed after being favorites all season and are still on the rise. They just have so much young talent.”

Two left wingers in the Nashville Predators’ Filip Forsberg and Calgary Flames’ Johnny Gaudreau highlight the free-agent pool. Forsberg has had his best offensive season with 42 goals and 42 assists in 69 games. Gaudreau is among the top 10 goalscorers over a three-year period and the Flames have announced they will make every effort to keep him in Calgary.

“We’re going to move heaven and earth and do whatever we can to bring Johnny back here,” said Brad Treliving, Calgary general manager.

The Arizona Coyotes have the longest odds of winning the 2023 Stanley Cup at 250-1 on Caesars Sportsbook.
