Charles Barkley roasts Celtics star Jayson Tatum during, of all things, hockey analysis

Jayson Tatum caught some ice hockey analysis by NBA commentator Charles Barkley astray.

The Hall of Famer appeared Monday during ESPN’s coverage of the Stanley Cup Finals and was asked to provide analysis of the first period. In this case, it was a repeat of Tampa Bay Lightning winger Ondrej Palat’s early goal.

“Now that’s a #1 sale. This is a regular sale by Jayson Tatum. I’m sorry, just kidding,” Barkley said. “Listen, that’s just a damn gate and a damn gate. I love you Jayson Tatum, just kidding.”

Barkley’s joke comes after the Celtics star set an NBA playoff record by committing 100 turnovers in a single postseason during Boston’s run to the NBA Finals.

Barkley isn’t exactly the most polished analyst when it comes to basketball. So ESPN really threw him in the deep end of the pool by suddenly dissecting a hockey movie. Barkley responded by somewhat eclipsing Tatum’s heavily criticized performance during the NBA Finals and throughout the playoffs.

Tatum was a 1st-team All-NBA selection last season and is considered a rising star in the league. However, he had an up-and-down run during the Celtics’ playoff run that was stopped by the Golden State Warriors in Game 6 of the Finals last week.
