Celtics Summer League roster taking shape

It’s crazy that just last week we were talking about how the Boston Celtics might hit back against the Golden State Warriors, and this week we’re already looking ahead to the Summer League — but that’s what happens when a team makes it to the end the NBA Finals. So life is.

Nonetheless, the Celtics Summer League schedule was released on June 20th and now, on June 21st, the roster has been announced or at least a first look at the potential roster has been given. As reported by The Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach, the roster looks like this:

  • Sam Hauser
  • Yammadar
  • Juhan Begarin
  • Malik Fitts
  • John Morgan
  • Matt Ryan
  • Brodrik Thomas
  • Aaron Nesmith (TBD)

As for Nesmith, there is currently no indication as to which direction he is leaning towards in terms of Summer League. Grant Williams took the bold step last season to retire from the squad and instead focus on his personal development – and he’s reaped the rewards, so it’s possible Nesmith will look to repeat that.

In terms of coaching, Joe Mazzulla did a fantastic job with the Summer League squad last season and while nothing has been announced it wouldn’t be hard to see him back in the hot seat this year.

“He coached the Summer League and kept everything together while I went to Tokyo. And so he conveyed well the value and relationship aspect that was a big part of my coaching staff. And so it’s easy to see why, once I’ve met him and been around him,” Udoka told the media after Boston’s NBA Finals loss.

As you can see, the Summer League roster isn’t quite full just yet, so we can expect the Celtics to add more names in the coming days in preparation for their opening game on July 9 when they take on the Miami compete heat.
