Celtics Stand Pat, Select Alabama’s JD Davison with 53rd Pick

While there were rumors that the Celtics might trade into the first round, they ultimately waited their turn and only came up on the clock in 53rd place.

The selection was JD Davison of Alabama. Davison is a six-foot-tall guard whose best skill lies in acting as a playmaker. He is also an explosive athlete.

Last season, he averaged 8.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists and one steal per game. He’s still lacking as a shooter at the moment, converting just 30.1 percent of the 2.5 threes he’s attempted. He also needs to reduce turnovers after giving away the ball nearly three times per competition while at Tide.

But it’s the 53rd pick overall, and Davison’s playmaking and athleticism make for an intriguing investment towards the end of the draft.
