The Boston Celtics sign Roxbury, Massachusetts native AJ Reeves to play with their Las Vegas Summer League roster this month. according to to JD Shaw of Hoops Rumor. The undrafted Providence point guard will play for the Celticsi Sin City side with a thinner-than-expected backfield rotation after Israel ground general Yam Madar decided to sit out the summer league to focus on European chances in the short-term and winger Aaron Nesmith in third year was dealt to the Indiana Pacers.
Reeves is a capable guard of some size who averaged 9.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game with the brothers last season while shooting 37.3% from beyond the arc.
His overall efficiency is still a bit of a concern at a 37.8% career with the brothers (a big part of why he probably wasn’t called up).
But Reeves will have a chance to champion Boston or another team, using a two-way deal against him while he helps bolster the depth of the Celtics’ summer league next week.
