The Boston Celtics may have an excellent option to capitalize on their mini-mid-level (MLE) exception once Danilo Gallinari clears the waivers. according to to ESPN-NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski. Now that the San Antonio Spurs have completed their anticipated release of the veteran wing, “his favorite thing to do is join the Boston Celtics,” Woj reported.
It’s not certain that Gallinari is Boston’s favorite to use his MLE. There are reportedly several other options in the mix for this price point. However, if there is mutual interest, it seems highly likely that the Italian striker will end up at Celtic very soon.
Gallinari is nearly 34 years old, but despite his history of recurring minor injuries, he’s aged particularly well. He averaged 11.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game while shooting 38.1% from beyond the arc in the 2021-22 season with the Atlanta Hawks.
This is the full range of players Boston could focus on to include in its largest traded player exception.
