The loss Celtics fans witnessed Thursday night at Fenway was actually the second time Boston fans had watched their team lose to a Bay Area squad – the Oakland A’s toppled the Red Sox earlier in the day at 4: 3 despite being defeated by Boston 11-8.
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu was in attendance for the watch party and actually gave an opening speech shouting “Go Celtics!” to the assembled crowd. Unfortunately for the estimated 10,000 fans in attendance, the Celtics didn’t go.
