Celtics assistant Will Hardy is a strong candidate for the Utah Jazz coach search

A story by Andy Larsen Salt Lake Grandstand reported that Boston Celtics assistant coach Will Hardy is a top candidate for the Utah Jazz head coaching position. According to Larsen, Hardy is “regarded by many league insiders as a front-runner” for Utah coaching, according to the Bleacher Report.

Former Jazz head coach Quin Snyder resigned after the 2022 season, finishing his tenure with 372-64 (.585) in the regular season and 21-30 (.412) in the playoffs.

Former Celtics president and now Utah CEO Danny Ainge reportedly wants a young assistant coach to take over, and Hardy, 34, fits into that mold. Hardy spent over a decade on the San Antonio Spurs coaching staff, five of whom served as assistant coaches, before joining Ime Udoka’s staff in Boston last season. Although both Ainge and Hardy are either current or very young members of the Celtics organization, their paths did not cross in Boston when the current president of basketball operations, Brad Stevens, hired Udoka and his staff.

Another Celtics assistant, Joe Mazzulla, was also asked by Jazz to run for the coaching position. “If anyone does [get a head coaching position]we’d like to rise inward,” Udoka said via CLNS Media.
