Blue Devils put another in NBA Draft green room

For the first time since Zion Williamson, RJ Barrett and Cam Reddish made lottery selections in 2019, a trio of Duke basketball products will be on display in the Green Room at the June 23 NBA Draft at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

All three are early draft contenders: freshman power forward Paolo Banchero, freshman small forward AJ Griffin, and sophomore center Mark Williams.

Last week, ESPN NBA draft analyst Jonathan Givony reported that the first 11 players received green room invites. That list included Banchero and Griffin.

Then nine other announced invites arrived this week, bringing the number to 20, including Williams.

Latest projections for five suspected Duke basketball draftees

Though much could change by next Thursday night, Paolo Banchero and AJ Griffin both appear widely in the top 10 pseudo-drafts.

Banchero looks set to be one of the top three names from the board, along with Auburn’s Jabari Smith and Gonzaga’s Chet Holmgren.

Meanwhile, Griffin could go as high as number 5 and maybe not lower than one of the last few of the 14 lottery picks.

But some big boards of late have listed Mark Williams ahead of Griffin. Yes, the top 10 remains within reach for the 7ft 1 Rim Guard, but it’s more likely to be a late lottery pick or one of the few picks to follow.

As for former three-year-old Blue Devil small forward Wendell Moore and one-time shooting guard Trevor Keels, there’s currently no telling who will be drafted first. Both still appear late in the first round or early in the second round of almost every mock draft.
