AVALANCHE GAME 3 REPORT CARD

Thunder and lightning, I’m telling you, it’s scary

Jack Johnson: C – Finished a minus one and no shots in the net. He was imperceptible to the Avalanche out there tonight. There was a lot of standing around and watching.

Bo Byram: C- – He had four shots at the net and felt like he was all over the ice, but not in a good way.

Erik Johnson: D – That was a defensive meltdown of them all. He was a minus two with just over 17 minutes played.

Devon Toews πŸ˜€ – He and Makar really had issues out there. Everyone was minus three, leaving a couple of guys alone in front of the net.

Cale Makar: D+ – He had two assists tonight, but again, defensive errors outweigh the points.

Andrew Cogliano πŸ˜€ – He was lively out there tonight but there wasn’t much else of him. He threw a couple of shots at the end of the 2nd and 3rd periods.

Valeri Nichushkin: C- – Almost got the team going but it was decided offside. After that point, he was pretty calm with a shot at the net.

Nicolas Aube-Kubel πŸ˜€ – He jumped back into the lineup after Andre Burakovsky retired. He played just over six minutes with four goals. It didn’t matter much in this game.

Alex Newhook: D – He took a couple of big hits and wasn’t a threat offensively. As the game spiraled out of control, the Avalanche’s penalties began to pile up.

Logan O’Connor πŸ˜€ – He had a few freebies in 12 minutes played. Time to regroup for Wednesday.

Nathan MacKinnon: C – He was frustrated and played like that. He took the shot in a 3v1 rush which isn’t bad but I wonder if he would take that shot no matter what.

JT Compher: B – He had three golden opportunities and Andrei Vasilevskiy robbed him all three times. He finished with five shots at the net.

Josh Manson: D – The Avalanche conceded five penalties over the two halves. Although Tampa benefited from one, they downplayed either a man or 4-on-4. He was careless with the puck in his own zone.

Darren Helm: C – He continued the physical aspect of his game but even that has come down a lot compared to Games 1 and 2. He had four tonight compared to 10 in the last two games.

Artturi Lehkonen: D – He was minus three and had three shots on target. See everyone for Game 5 on Friday night at the Ball Arena.

Nico Sturm: D – Stupid mistakes by everyone including Sturm taking a game delay penalty. We’ll see if Nazem Kadri and Andre Burakovsky are ready to go because he’ll probably get a spot.

Gabriel Landeskog: B+ – The only ray of hope tonight was the captain and his two goals. The team has talked about their resilience and staying balanced after wins and losses, we need to see that now.

Mikko Rantanen : D- – His scoring streak continues. That’s all I have. Poor performance on back check tonight.

Darcy Kuemper πŸ˜€ – He didn’t have any help defensively today but he didn’t make the save he needed. The Avs were still in the middle midway through the second game, but the last two goals pushed them over the edge. Maybe he’s back on the bench now. Playoff save percentage now 0.892.

Pavel Francouz: C+ – Let the goalkeeper debate begin. Did pulling Kuemper mean we’ll see Francouz play the rest of the Stanley Cup Finals? Can you win a trophy with a goalkeeper dispute?
