Colorado has home advantage in the 2022 Stanley Cup Finals. The Avalanche advanced to their first Finals appearance since 2001 after defeating the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference Finals.

Tampa Bay, who has won the last two consecutive Stanley Cups, advanced to his third straight Finals appearance, earning the victory over the New York Rangers in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

During the regular season, both Avalanche and Bolts encounters were close, but Colorado won in each of them. The Avs picked up a 4-3 shootout road win in the first meeting of the regular season on October 23, 2021 and defeated Tampa Bay 3-2 on home ice on February 10. Gabriel Landeskog accelerated the Avalanche with two goals and three points (2G, 1A) in one game while Nathan MacKinnon also scored three points in both meetings (1G, 2A).
