2022 Stanley Cup Final: Avalanche take Game 1 after OT goal from Andre Burakovsky

The Colorado Avalanche are three wins away from securing the 2022 Stanley Cup after they clinched a 4-3 overtime win over the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 1 of the Finals on Wednesday.

Colorado’s Gabriel Landeskog opened with a 7:47 goal in the first half. The Avalanche quickly followed with another goal from Valeri Nichushkin at 9:23.

Tampa Bay responded at 12:23 with a Nick Paul goal to make it 2-1, but Colorado put the lead back to two with a powerplay goal from Artturi Lehkonen at 17:31. However, that would be the final aim of the avalanche in regulation.

The Blitz responded with a goal from Ondrej Palat at 12:51 in the second period, then quickly another from Mikhail Sergachev at 13:39. The teams went into overtime tied 3-3.

The Avalanche had 74 shot attempts by regulation while the Lightning had 58.

Colorado faced OT on the power play and although they didn’t score on that occasion, Andre Burakovsky hit the net after 1:23 of overtime to take the win. The Avalanche are now 4-1 in overtime this postseason.
