The New York Knicks were unlucky in this year’s NBA Draft Lottery, but they still got the 11th overall pick and should have a variety of talent to choose from. DraftKings Sportsbook has odds for the New York Knicks pick and our experts predict there is one player who stands out. The Knicks need a playmaker, and our pundits predict they’ll pick Duke University small forward AJ Griffin.

2022 NBA Draft New York Knicks First Pick Prediction: AJ Griffin (+500)

Mitchell Robinson’s status could make Knicks fans nervous this offseason, and if he leaves, New York could decide to draft his replacement. However, there are many more ways the franchise can replace Robinson in free agency, and the lack of a true playmaker remains the Knicks’ biggest problem. Duke’s AJ Griffin could solve that problem for New York.

Griffin played basketball at Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains and would fit right into the Knicks’ playing style. New York drafted Duke alumni RJ Barrett in 2019, and Griffin would keep Barrett from handling the basketball most of the time. While not a true point guard, his handling of the basketball is tremendous, and he would likely cut the 13.2 turnovers per game that New York posted last season.

The Duke freshman averaged 10.4 points and 3.9 rebounds in his lone season last year, but he ended in a team-leading 18-point loss of the Blue Devils Elite Eight to Arkansas and made the ACC All-Freshman team . Griffin’s best attribute is his sharpshooting, and he finished his freshman season with 44.7% from three and 79.2% from the free throw line while averaging just .6 turnovers per game.

Dyson Daniels would probably be the best fit for New York, but his odds of making the top-10 are -2500 and he likely won’t be available for the Knicks. Therefore, AJ Griffin would be the top pick for New York, picking 11th in the 2022 NBA draft.
